The Running Ensemble/Anthem
A running club and choir, The Running Ensemble take a run through the city, and on finishing the run, perform their Anthem live to an audience.
Using the social and physical outcomes of running and singing together, the work attempts to construct a feeling of euphoria felt between each runner, and between the group and the audience, climaxed in the Ensemble’s performance of their Anthem.
The work was commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre for BURST international and national live art and performance festival 2009. The music for the Anthem was written by composer James Keane, with lyrics by Amy Feneck. A single screen video of the performance was subsequently shown at Battersea Arts Centre.
